Our newsletter (you’ll love it):
Here’s what our customers are saying:
While financial services offer many conveniences for individuals and businesses, they can also be used for illicit criminal activities. To try and contain that, governments and regulators have put KYC (know you customer) standards in place.
These standards help protect financial services companies from customers involved in illegal activities. The thinking behind KYC is that if a customer cannot hide behind an alias, they’ll be less likely to use financial services for things like money laundering or terrorist financing.
KYC typically involves three activities:
Establish the customer’s identity
Understand what they’re using financial services for
Assess the risks associated with that activity
If KYC is ‘know your customer’, then eKYC is an electronic, or more accurately, a digital implementation of KYC. But a true eKYC implementation avoids all person-to-person interaction. In other words, not only is it digital, but it’s also fully automated. However, confirming someone’s true identity automatically without seeing them in person does not come without its challenges
